On July 25, 2025, David Gaudu from the Groupama-FDJ team achieved victory in the third stage of the Vuelta, which took place between San-Mauricio-Canavese and Cheres. The stage, covering a distance of 137 km, concluded with a sprint uphill, where Gaudu surpassed the seasoned Mads Pedersen from Lidl-Trek and Jonas Vingegaard from Visma-Lease a bike, who finished third.
This victory became the 13th in Gaudu's career. Despite his success, he did not receive the red leader's jersey, as the times with Pedersen turned out to be identical, but in the distribution of places, the less advantageous option for Gaudu was chosen – the sum of positions in previous stages. In the first stage, Gaudu finished 49th, while Vingegaard was 41st, which became a decisive factor.
Gaudu demonstrated strong form, managing to withstand the pressure in the finishing sprint, which indicates his good chances in the upcoming stages. It is worth noting that in the previous stage, Vingegaard chose the red jersey, having won the race in Limone-Piemonte.
