The film The Roses, which will be released on September 29, is a new adaptation of the novel The War of the Roses by Warren Adler. In this version, screenwriter Tony McNamara recounts the story of Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo Rose (Benedict Cumberbatch), two professionals whose marriage transforms into a dark comedy of toxic resentment.

Ivy, a talented chef, becomes a successful businesswoman, while Theo, an architect, experiences a crash in his career. This role reversal leads to conflict, as Ivy begins to resent his feelings of inferiority and inadequacy.

The film boasts high visual quality, comparable to the works of Nensi Mayers. However, despite the comedic style, it does not shy away from serious themes about marriage and relationships.

Director Jay Roach, known for films like Austin Powers, creates an atmosphere in which actors depict the complexity of relationships. Colman and Cumberbatch demonstrate high acting mastery, even though their characters may appear overly simplistic in their feelings towards one another.
