Kyiv Responds to Poland's Decision Regarding Ukrainian Symbols

  • Kyiv is analyzing the legal consequences of Poland's decisions.
  • The President of Poland initiated a ban on Ukrainian symbols.
  • The increase in negative sentiments in Ukraine may require a response.

This is reported by Ukrinform, Ukrayinska Pravda.

Kyiv is examining the legal aspects of recent decisions by the President of Poland, Karol Noworocki, regarding the classification of Ukrainian symbols alongside Nazi and communist symbols.

The diplomatic source informed Ukrinform about this. "We are analyzing the legal consequences of these decisions and their potential impact on the status of Ukrainian citizens in Poland. We are grateful to the official Warsaw for the previous decisions to support our compatriots and trust that their rights will be protected no less than in other EU countries," the source emphasized.

At the same time, the source stressed that any politicized steps that equate Ukrainian symbols with Nazi or communist ones may provoke an increase in negative sentiments in society and require a reaction from the Ukrainian side.

As reported earlier, on August 25, the President of Poland, Karol Noworocki, announced a legislative initiative regarding the classification of the "Bandera symbol" as equivalent to Nazi and communist symbols, according to the Penal Code of Poland. Noworocki also stated that he did not sign the amendment to the law on support for Ukrainian citizens.
