French Prime Minister announced a vote of confidence due to budget cuts
- French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne announced a vote of confidence on September 8.
- In this case, the government of Borne may fall.
- Protests against budget cuts are scheduled for September 10.
Prime Minister of France Élisabeth Borne announced the holding of a vote of confidence in parliament on September 8. This vote concerns her unpopular plans regarding cuts to state spending, which, in her opinion, are necessary for stabilizing the finances of the country.
Borne noted that France is facing a "serious insecurity" due to the enormous debt, and the results of the vote will show whether deputies have sufficient support for her €44 billion ($51.51 billion) budget cut plan. According to her, the budget deficit last year was 5.8% of GDP, which is nearly double the official EU limit of 3%.
As Borne prepares for the vote, her government, which was formed only in the summer of last year, may fall. The leader of the opposition party "National Rally" Jordan Bardella stated that his party does not support the government, which is causing suffering for the French people.
In addition, leaders of other opposition parties, such as "Unsubmissive France" and "Greens," also announced that they will vote against the government. Socialists, who could be decisive in the outcome of the vote, also expressed their position against Borne.
The vote will take place two days before scheduled protests against budget cuts, which are supported by left-wing parties and some unions. These protests recall the "yellow vests," which emerged on the streets in 2018 due to rising fuel prices.
