New York — Koolmen Vong became the first tennis player from Hong Kong to win a match in the singles draw at the Grand Slam tournaments since the start of the open era in 1968.

Vong defeated American Alexander Kovachevich in the first round of the Open Championship of the USA on Monday. He won the match in three sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (4) in under 2.5 hours.

The 21-year-old tennis player is ranked 173rd in the ATP rankings and is participating in the main tournament of the Grand Slam for the first time. Previously, he did not qualify for the Open Championship of the USA, the Australian Open, and twice for Wimbledon and the French Open.

In the second round, Vong will face Adam Walton from Australia.
