Google Confirms New Requirements for App Developer Verification
- Google will start verifying app developers from 2026.
- Millions of malicious apps have been removed from the Play Store.
- User safety has been enhanced through Google Play Protect.
Google announced new security measures related to the distribution of apps for Android. Starting in 2026, the company will require verification of the identity of developers who distribute their apps not only through the Play Store but also via other platforms. This decision applies to all certified Android devices.
According to Google's statement, the new system aims to reduce risks associated with anonymous developers who may distribute malicious software or compromise user privacy. It is noted that more than 50 times more malicious apps come from sources outside of the Play Store.
Developers who wish to undergo early verification can register starting in January 2025. In early 2026, the active implementation of new requirements will begin, and by the end of 2026, they will become mandatory for apps in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
In addition, Google has removed millions of malicious apps from the Play Store in connection with new threats, such as the Anatsa virus, which targets financial applications. This malicious app can steal user data and facilitate fraudulent transactions.
Google emphasizes that the protection from known versions of this malicious software is already operational through Google Play Protect. Users are advised to delete apps that are no longer available in the Play Store and verify permissions that are granted to installed apps.
