Texans announced the absence of Joe Mixon for at least four games
- Joe Mixon will miss the first four games of the season due to injury.
- The team has moved him to the reserve list to recover.
- Nick Chubb will become the starting running back in his place.
The Houston Texans announced that veteran running back Joe Mixon will miss at least the first four games of the regular season due to injury. On Monday, the team reported that they have moved Mixon from the active roster to the reserve list due to a non-injury related issue. This decision will be finalized in the waiver, when the team size must be reduced to 53 players.
In 2024, Mixon was the leading player on the team in terms of rushing yards, accumulating 1,016 yards on 245 carries. Following him on the rushing list was Damon Pierce, who managed only 40 carries. The Texans also signed veteran Nick Chubb during the free agency period and selected Wide Receiver Marcus with USC in the fourth round of the draft.
While Mixon is expected to miss at least four games, the team has not provided specifics regarding the timeline for his return to the field. Mixon’s injury occurred during OTA and mini-camp, and he has been unable to participate in training camp.
Mixon is starting his ninth season in the NFL. Previously, he played seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, the first before joining the Texans last season after three years.
