Jack Draper, seeded fifth at the US Open, successfully returned to competition after a 53-day absence, defeating his opponent in the first round. In the match against Argentine Federico Agustín Gomez, who ranks 203rd in the world, Draper won with a score of 6-4, 7-5, 6-7 (7), 6-2. The comeback was not easy for the tennis player due to physical difficulties, including periods of fatigue during the game.

After an injury to his left arm, which caused him to miss several tournaments, Draper noted that he did not expect to be able to participate in the US Open. He emphasized that despite not playing his best game, he was proud of the team that helped him return to the court and achieve victory. "It was a tough match," he said, adding that his team worked hard on his recovery after the injury.

Draper also faced challenges in his game, particularly in the third set, when he managed to overcome fatigue and even lost match points in the tiebreak. However, in the fourth set, he showed a better game, which allowed him to finish the match on a positive note.

At the same time, Cameron Norrie also successfully advanced to the second round, as his opponent, Sebastian Korda, withdrew from the match due to injury. In a separate tournament, Petra Kvitova announced her retirement after losing to Daria Parry.
