YouTube TV may lose Fox channels due to a contract dispute

  • YouTube is in negotiations with Fox regarding the extension of the agreement.
  • Fox channels may become unavailable starting August 27.
  • Users will receive a $10 credit for the duration of the unavailability of the content.

On Monday, YouTube announced it is in negotiations with Fox regarding the continuation of the partnership. However, Fox is demanding payments that exceed those received by other partners with comparable content. If an agreement is not reached by 5 PM Eastern Time on August 27, Fox channels, including Fox Sports, Business, and News, may become unavailable for YouTube TV users.

YouTube reported that it is actively negotiating with Fox, aiming to reach a fair agreement without additional costs for subscribers. In the case of a prolonged unavailability of Fox content, YouTube will provide users with a credit of $10.

Fox, in turn, expressed frustration that Google is trying to impose terms that do not reflect the market. They warned users about the potential loss of access to content if Google does not respond actively to the negotiations.

Since the start of the NFL season, the contract between YouTube TV and Fox has been particularly relevant. The potential loss of access to Fox News, Fox Business, and Fox Sports could impact the broadcast of significant sporting events, such as NFL matches.

It is worth noting that in July, YouTube TV signed an agreement with Paramount Global to maintain access to channels such as CBS and Nickelodeon.
