A Water Crisis is Ongoing in Occupied Donetsk, Ukraine

  • In Donetsk, a water crisis is being observed due to Russian control.
  • Zelensky is discussing with the USA the possibility of pressure on Russia for peace negotiations.
  • Poland has initiated aid payments to refugees, which are being processed through Starlink.

In the Donetsk region, which is partially controlled by Russia, a water crisis has arisen, forcing local residents to stand in lines for water. The regional representative, appointed by Russia, Denis Pushilin, stated that the situation can only be regulated under full Russian control over the region and a crucial canal that connects two rivers. This canal, built in the 1950s, stretches for 135 km and ends near Donetsk.

Pushilin accused Ukraine of being in a "water blockade," however, Ukrainian officials reported that parts of the canal had been damaged as a result of the war. Local residents wrote an open letter to Putin, pleading for humanitarian and ecological assistance. Residents of Donetsk are forced to fill plastic containers and cans with water from an automotive source, as water supply access is only available for a few hours every three days.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and American envoy Kurt Volker discussed the possibility of pressure on Russia for "real negotiations" regarding the end of the war. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine expects to receive no less than 1 billion dollars annually from allies for the purchase of weapons.

Germany is ready to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees for ensuring a "lasting peace" after the conflict ends. Currently, cooperation with European partners is being discussed, but negotiations are still in the early stages.

Additionally, Polish President Karol Nawrocki initiated legislation that continues payments of aid to Ukrainian refugees, which may threaten the funding of Starlink for Ukraine, which is provided by Poland during wartime.
