As a result of the shooting in the rural territory of Porpunka, located in the Victoria state, two police officers were killed, and one received injuries. The incident occurred on the morning of September 26, 2025, when officers arrived to execute a warrant at a house.
The police department confirmed that they were participating in an "active operation" in this area, but details remain limited due to operational security. Reports indicate that one of the officers sustained injuries in the leg, while two others were not found.
The acting Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, expressed condolences regarding the police officers, stating that "our thoughts are with the police for their daily hard work." He added that the police commissioner of Victoria would provide an update later that day.
As a result of the incident, the Porpunka school was closed on quarantine, and the local council closed all public institutions in the region.
The police have taken measures to secure the area, preventing local residents from entering this territory. Approximately 50 police officers are working in the area, as well as medical helicopters that arrived to provide assistance.
