Australia Post and international services have suspended deliveries to the USA

• Australia Post has suspended the delivery of parcels to the USA due to new tariffs.
• Japan and Taiwan have also suspended small shipments to the USA.

Australia Post, the state postal service of Australia, has temporarily suspended deliveries of parcels to the USA and Puerto Rico, starting from September 26, 2025. This change is related to new customs tariffs implemented by former US President Donald Trump.

According to the new regulations, parcels valued up to $800 USD, which previously fell under the so-called "de minimis" treatment, will now be subject to duties. Until now, such parcels could be imported duty-free.

Trump signed an order that cancels this privilege, and from September 29, parcels will be subject to a 10% duty, which is the basic tariff for Australian goods.

In addition to Australia Post, similar decisions have been made by postal services in Japan and Taiwan. The Taiwanese company Chunghwa Post has also suspended the delivery of small parcels to the USA effective September 26, while Japan Post suspended the delivery of certain small parcels starting September 27.

The Japanese postal service explained that the new regulations apply to processes for carriers, and thus they also suspend the acceptance of small parcels. Postal services in other countries, such as the United Kingdom and Switzerland, have also suspended their shipments to the USA.

According to the new tariffs, parcels up to $100 USD, as well as letters and documents, are not subject to restrictions. Australia Post reported that it is working on restoring deliveries to the USA in cooperation with international postal partners.

Representatives of the Australian government referred to the new tariffs as "unfriendly" and noted that they will lead to increased costs for American families and small businesses.
