Trump Plans Meeting with Kim Jong Un for Peace Talks

The President of the USA Donald Trump expressed readiness to meet with the leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un during a meeting with the President of South Korea Lee Jae-myung at the White House. The two leaders discussed the issue of peace on the Korean Peninsula and the nuclear capabilities of North Korea.

Trump noted that he is looking forward to the meeting with Kim, hoping that negotiations could take place by the end of the year. This would be the fourth meeting between them, but expectations for progress seem to be quite dim.

The first summit took place in June 2018 in Singapore, where an agreement on "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula was reached. However, subsequent negotiations, including a second meeting in Hanoi in February 2019, ended without any substantial agreement due to disagreements over the lifting of sanctions.

In recent years, North Korea has significantly increased its nuclear capabilities, according to Lee, the country could produce 10-20 nuclear warheads per year. The country is also strengthening ties with Russia, which complicates the situation on the international arena.

Currently, despite attempts to restore dialogue, the high level of tension remains, and the prospects for a meeting between Trump and Kim seem increasingly unlikely.
