Borussia Dortmund announced the extension of the contract of its trainer Niko Kovac until June 2027. This decision was made due to Kovac's successful work, who led the team to a 11th place finish in the Bundesliga in the summer of 2025.

Under Kovac's leadership, the team managed to improve its results, finishing the season in 4th place and earning the right to compete in the Champions League. The club's director Lars Ricken noted that Kovac shows himself to be an honest and straightforward communicator, maintaining a high level of discipline.

The start of the new season for Dortmund is overshadowed by injuries to several defenders, including Niko Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, and Emre Can. The team also encountered problems during the match against St. Pauli, where debutant Filippo Mané was sent off.
