In India, an investigation has begun regarding the private zoo Vantara

  • The Supreme Court of India has initiated an investigation into the Vantara zoo.
  • Critics assert that the animals are being kept in unsafe conditions.
  • Results of the investigation are expected by December 12.

The Supreme Court of India has started an investigation regarding the private zoo Vantara, which belongs to Anatu Ambani, the son of the richest person in Asia, Mukesh Ambani. The zoo, located in the western state of Gujarat, claims to be the "largest in the world for the rescue of wild animals."

According to the Central Zoological Authority of India, the zoo houses over 200 lions, 50 leopards, 160 tigers, 200 bears, 250 monkeys, and 900 crocodiles. However, critics argue that the animals are kept in unsafe conditions and that the zoo has no intention of returning them to the wild.

The court indicated that former judges will be involved in the investigation of the accusations of illegal possession of animals and the embezzlement of funds. Along with the reports, the investigation was initiated based on a complaint from organizations that protect animal rights.

Vantara asserts that it provides full support for the investigation and complies with all laws. Results of the investigation are expected by December 12.

The zoo became known in 2024 during the widespread event of Anatu Ambani, which took place with the participation of world celebrities.
