- The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is leading to widespread famine.
- Nasser Hospital symbolizes the destruction of the health care system.
Since the beginning of the war in Gaza, there has been a significant increase in cases of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), with 110 cases diagnosed in the last three months alone. This situation is compounded by a volcanic outbreak of water-borne infection and worsening living conditions in the region.
The Gaza health authorities report that 36% of AFP cases are recorded in children under 15 years old, and since the start of the conflict, 271 deaths have been recorded due to issues related to malnutrition. According to UN data, 514 thousand people, or nearly a quarter of Gaza's population, are experiencing hunger.
By the end of 2025, Gaza is expected to see an increase in cases of malnutrition among children. According to data from the Humanity & Inclusion program, by the end of 2025, more than 12 thousand children under five years old will suffer from acute malnutrition.
In addition, Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis has become a symbol of the destruction of the health care system, as medical facilities are overwhelmed and cannot cope with the number of patients. Hospitals lack basic medical supplies, and patients are forced to be treated in conditions that do not meet standards.
Experts assert that the situation requires urgent intervention: "The health care system in Gaza is on the brink of collapse, and we urgently need more humanitarian aid."
