Israel and the USA support the plan to disarm Hezbollah in Lebanon

  • Lebanon plans to develop a strategy for the disarmament of Hezbollah.
  • Saudi Arabia and Qatar are ready to invest in the economy of Lebanon.
  • Amnesty International called for an investigation into the destruction in Lebanon.

This was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat, Asharq Al-Awsat.

The Lebanese government plans to present a project on August 31 that aims to convince Hezbollah to disarm, reported US special envoy Thomas Barak in Beirut. According to him, this plan does not foresee military actions against Hezbollah.

In this regard, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel could reduce its military presence in southern Lebanon, provided that Lebanese armed forces act to disarm Hezbollah.

According to Barak, it is important to attract funding from the Persian Gulf to create jobs for Hezbollah members and their supporters. He noted that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are ready to invest in the economic zone in southern Lebanon if the fighters give up their weapons.

After the war between Israel and Hezbollah, which ended in the summer of 2006, the situation in the region remains tense. Hezbollah rejected the government’s plan and stated that it would continue to maintain its arsenal. Meanwhile, international organizations, including Amnesty International, called for an investigation into the destruction of civilian infrastructure that occurred during the conflict.

According to recent data, more than 10,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed in southern Lebanon during the war, which has caused serious problems for the local population.
