- Cheidozi Ogbene returns to the team after injury
- The Ireland squad will play against Hungary on September 6
Captain of the Ireland squad Colman has not been included in the team for the qualifying matches for the World Championship against Hungary and Vietnam, which will take place in September. The 36-year-old defender missed two Premier League matches due to injury, but did not return to the field in the first two games of the Premier League this season. Despite the return to training, coach Gaimir Halgrimsson did not include him in the squad.
However, returning to the team is forward Cheidozi Ogbene, who has not played for the squad since June 2024 due to injury. He will be part of the group of eight forwards, including Evann Ferguson, who debuted in Serie A for Roma in a match against Bologna.
Notably, Robbie Brady and Will Smallbone are expected to miss these matches due to injury. Also, Bosun Laval, a defender from Stoke City, retains his place in the squad. The Ireland squad will play against Hungary in Dublin on September 6, after which they will travel to Vietnam in three days. These matches will mark the beginning of the qualifying campaign for WC-2026, in which Portugal will also participate.
