Russian shelling has trapped miners underground in the Donetsk region

Today, on August 26, 2025, Russian forces shelled several populated areas in the community of Dobripillya in the Donetsk region. As a result of the attack, part of the local mines was left without electricity, which led to the entrapment of 148 miners underground with no possibility of being brought to the surface. This was reported by Mykhailo Volynets, head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine.

As a result of the shelling, such populated points as Dobripillya, Bilozerske, Hanniivka, Yverske, and Sviatohirivka were affected. According to preliminary data, the town of Dobripillya was hit by four aerial bombs.

The shelling also caused a power outage throughout the community. Mykhailo Volynets noted that 148 miners remain trapped underground due to the lack of electricity supply.

It is noted that on July 16, Russian forces also conducted an airstrike on Dobripillya, targeting the densely populated area, which resulted in civilian casualties.

On July 9, Russia carried out a massive drone attack on the center of Dobripillya, which led to significant destruction.
