The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, signed into law a bill that provides for social benefits and basic medical assistance for unemployed Ukrainians. This decision affects 22% of economically inactive Ukrainians in Poland who require social protection.
The director of the analytical center of the international company Gremi Personal, Yuriy Gryhorenko, noted that the largest number of affected are mothers who do not work and have children. Many of them remain without support, as their partners have stayed in Ukraine.
As of June 30, 2025, under temporary protection in Poland, 992,505 Ukrainians were registered, which constitutes 23% of the total number of people with this status in the EU. Of these, over 800,000 Ukrainians contribute to the Polish social insurance system.
Gryhorenko expressed hope that the law on assistance to Ukrainians will be signed in the coming month, as this is a requirement of the EU. He emphasized that previous decisions by the president may intensify the feeling of insecurity among Ukrainians who are already working in Poland.
The European Commission stated that member countries must ensure that Ukrainians who are under temporary protection have access to basic medical assistance. However, the level of social benefits and medical assistance is determined separately by each country.
Representative of the European Commission, Markus Lammerth, emphasized that the directive on temporary protection requires states to provide necessary assistance, especially when beneficiaries lack resources for living.
