Kiefer Crosbie criticizes referee Mark Goddard for insufficient time to recover
- Crosbie expressed criticism towards referee Goddard for the insufficient time given for recovery.
- The fight ended in a TKO for Crosbie due to an illegal knee strike.
- This loss became the third consecutive defeat for Crosbie in the UFC.
Irish fighter Kiefer Crosbie expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of referee Mark Goddard during his bout in the UFC that took place in China. The fight against Chinese debutant Taiylake Nuradzhy ended in a TKO for Crosbie in the first round. This defeat was controversial because Nuradzhy had been penalized for an illegal knee strike on Crosbie, who was in a seated position.
Goddard stopped the fight after giving Crosbie a brief time to recover, asking him if he was ready to continue. The doctor at ringside allowed Crosbie to continue, but he stated that he had received insufficient time for recovery.
Crosbie noted on his Instagram: "Why didn’t I get five minutes? I only got about 40 seconds and couldn’t even remember if it happened." He also emphasized that, regardless of his state, he decided to continue fighting, especially since this is typical for fighters.
The UFC systems regulate that the fighter must have up to five minutes to decide whether they can continue after an illegal strike. However, in this situation, Crosbie received less time for recovery.
Regarding the criticism, commentators emphasized that Goddard acted correctly in this situation, as Crosbie could have opted out of continuing the fight and received a disqualification win instead.
This defeat became the third consecutive loss for Crosbie in the UFC, which puts his career in the organization at risk. His last defeat in boxing occurred in July 2023 against Aaron Chalmers.
