Bruce Willis's wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared about the actor's health condition, who has been battling dementia for almost three years. In the summer of 2023, his family announced Bruce's diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which affects communication and behavior.
Emma Heming stated that Bruce is still active and in generally good health, but his brain "is changing." "His language is fading, and we are learning to adapt," she said in an interview for ABC News.
In her new book, Emma "Embracing the Unexpected: Finding Strength, Hope, and Joy on the Journey of Caregiving," she shares her experience. Emma noted that moments of clarity occur rarely, but they still feel parts of Bruce's personality, such as his smile.
She highlighted the importance of support for families going through similar challenges, and hopes that her book becomes a guide for other caregivers. Emma also emphasized the importance of recognizing the early signs of FTD.
Bruce and Emma have been together for 14 years and have two daughters: Mabel Ray and Evelyn Penn. Bruce's children from his previous marriage, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, also support the family during this important time.
A special episode "Emma and Bruce Willis: Embracing the Unexpected" will air on September 26 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on ABC.
