U.S. Coast Guard Stops Record Amount of Narcotics
- The U.S. Coast Guard seized over 76,000 pounds of narcotics.
- 34 suspected drug traffickers were arrested during operations.
- The value of the seized narcotics is estimated at approximately 473 million dollars.
On September 26, 2025, the U.S. Coast Guard offloaded a record amount of narcotics at Port Everglades, Florida. The total weight of the seized narcotics exceeded 76,140 pounds (about 34,500 kg), which includes nearly 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana. The value of the seized narcotics is estimated at 473 million dollars.
This operation became the largest in the history of the service. The narcotics were seized during 19 separate operations in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea between June 26 and September 18. Three Coast Guard cutters, two U.S. Navy ships, and a Dutch vessel participated in these operations.
Captain John B. McCauley, commander of the Hamilton cutter, reported that during these operations, 34 suspected drug traffickers were arrested. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles helped to identify a lot of these vessels that were transporting narcotics.
Since the beginning of the year, the Coast Guard has seized narcotics worth a total of 2.2 billion dollars. This indicates a serious threat posed by illegal drug trafficking to the U.S. The Trump administration considers the fight against drug traffickers a priority task, which is confirmed by legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening penalties for drug traffickers.
