Spotify Launches Messaging Feature for Communication with Friends

  • The messaging feature allows one-on-one communication within Spotify.
  • Available for users aged 16 and over on both free and premium plans.
  • Users can respond to messages with text and emojis.

This is reported by TechCrunch, ZDNet.

Spotify is launching a new messaging feature that allows users to communicate one-on-one within the app. This feature is available for users aged 16 and over, who can use it on both free and premium versions of the app.

Users can only send messages to those with whom they have already shared content, for example, shared playlists or through the "Jams" or "Blends" feature. To start a conversation, they need to send a request that the other person must confirm.

Additionally, if someone sends a message to Spotify in other social networks, such as Instagram or Facebook, you can accept the request for communication. The new messages also allow responding to them with additional text and emojis.

To access the messages, users can tap on their profile picture in the upper left corner of the screen. This allows them to view the message history and interact with friends without leaving the app.

Spotify emphasizes that this feature is an addition to the existing possibilities of sharing content across the platform. It is also expected that messages will be protected by encryption, although full confidentiality at the code level is not guaranteed.

The new feature is rolling out in select Latin American and Southern American countries, but will also be available in the USA, Canada, European countries, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
