Masters Invites Winners of Six National Opens

  • Winners of six national opens will receive invitations to the Masters.
  • The changes are related to the desire to increase the international character of golf.
  • Only PGA Tour winners with full status will receive invitations to the Masters.

The Masters tournament now includes changes in its invitations, which will now invite winners of six national opens. This step is being taken in collaboration between Augusta National and R&A.

Starting in 2025, invitations to the Masters will be granted to winners of the following tournaments: the Spanish Open, the Japan Open, the Hong Kong Open, the Australian Open, the South African Open, and the Scottish Open. This change is linked to the desire to enhance the international character of golf.

Previously, the Masters invited winners of the PGA Tour's fall events, however, most of them did not qualify for the top-100 world ranking. The Masters aims to ensure better representation of players from around the world, along with new criteria.

In addition, the Masters also emphasizes its commitment to global golf, as confirmed by Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley. He noted that this collaboration with R&A will help promote the growth of golf at the international level.

It is important to note that participation in the Masters will not be available to players from the LIV Golf League, regardless of the fact that some other major tournaments have included them in their categories.
