New York Giants release quarterback Tommy DeVito
- Tommy DeVito has been released by the New York Giants following the season.
- DeVito showed good results, but the team opted for other quarterbacks.
- There is a possibility of DeVito returning to the practice squad of the team.
The New York Giants announced the release of quarterback Tommy DeVito, which concludes his time with the team. The information about this was confirmed by a source that preferred to remain anonymous.
DeVito, a native of northern New Jersey, became popular among fans, but his chances of staying with the team diminished after the signing of veterans Russell Wilson and Jamies Winston, as well as the selection of rookie Jackson Dart in the draft.
Despite DeVito demonstrating good play in preseason matches, coach Brian Dabol stated that the team cannot keep four quarterbacks on the roster. DeVito played 12 matches, completing 65% of passes from 1358 yards, with 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
In the final preseason match against New England, DeVito completed 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns, which gave him the highest rating among quarterbacks in the preseason.
Should DeVito remain with the team, there is a possibility that he could return to the practice squad, should he not be claimed by other teams. His experience could be valuable in the role of third-string quarterback in other clubs.
