On the 4th stage of the Vuelta, which took place on August 26, Frenchman David Gaudu became the new leader of the competition, receiving the red jersey. Gaudu finished the stage in 25th place, which allowed him to overtake Jonas Vingegaard, who finished 42nd. The winner of the stage was British cyclist Ben Turner from the Ineos Grenadiers team, who covered the distance of 206.7 km from Susa, Italy, to Voiron, France.
Turner, who finished ahead of Belgian Jasper Philipsen from Alpecin-Deceuninck, achieved his first victory in the World Tour. During the stage, there were also several crashes, including those involving George Bennett and Jay Vine. The next stage of the Vuelta will take place on August 28 and will be a team time trial lasting 24.1 km in Figueras.
