On the morning of September 26, 2025, Israeli forces carried out a rare raid in central Ramallah, located in the West Bank, where the headquarters of the Palestinian autonomy is situated. According to local medical reports, during the clash, dozens of Palestinians were injured, as people who were throwing stones were shot after throwing them and using tear gas.

Israel asserts that the purpose of the raid was to target points associated with Hamas. However, this raid likely further undermines the authority of the Palestinian autonomy, which is striving to gain recognition from some Western countries as a state.

The Palestinian autonomy is seen as a stronghold of Hamas. It cooperates with Israel on security issues and has limited autonomy in parts of the West Bank. Many Palestinians consider it corrupt and autocratic.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, as a result of the raid, 58 people were injured, including all - gunshot wounds, and 14 - rubber bullets. Several dozen people were throwing stones at Israeli border police, who entered the city center. The forces reported that they detained five people suspected of terrorist activities.

Associated Press footage showed people fleeing as tear gas canisters fell on the street, and an Israeli soldier firing in the air, as well as people carrying an injured person to urgent care.

Violence in the West Bank has increased during wartime in Gaza, as Israeli forces conduct large-scale operations, which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians and displaced tens of thousands. There is also an observed increase in violence from Israeli settlers and attacks by Palestinians on Israelis.

Israeli forces regularly operate in Ramallah and other areas under Palestinian autonomy, but raids in the city center are rare.
