In the state of Tennessee, a man named George Herman Ruth, who shares the same name as the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth, has been accused of fraud regarding classic methods. According to federal prosecutors, he used the names of deceased or retired professional baseball players to submit false claims for payments.
69-year-old Ruth, a resident of Morristown, was charged with 91 counts, including postal fraud, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering. Prosecutors claim that he attempted to obtain more than $550,000 from the U.S. through this scheme, using the names of former baseball players.
Ruth uncovered more than a dozen postal screens in various locations in Tennessee, creating fictitious companies. He submitted hundreds of false claim forms in different administrative agencies for classic actions across the entire state. Among the false claims were applications for payments in cases of racial discrimination and others.
The indictment states that Ruth also used social security numbers of minor victims. His attorney has not commented on the situation yet. Previously, he had already been convicted for fraud with social payments and was under probation until July 2025.
