The Democratic Party of the USA Discusses Its Position on the War in Gaza
- DNC failed to reach an agreement on the resolution regarding the war in Gaza
- The head of the committee withdrew his resolution for further discussion
- Progressive members of the party are pushing for a more hardline position regarding Israel
On September 26, 2025, in Minneapolis, members of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) were unable to reach an agreement on two supermajority resolutions concerning the war in Gaza. One of the resolutions, proposed by committee chair Ken Martin, called for the cessation of military aid and the provision of humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Another resolution, supported by progressive party members, demanded an embargo on weapons and the suspension of military aid to Israel.
Martin initially supported his resolution, but later decided to withdraw it to continue the discussion and include the voices of younger party members, who favored a more hardline position regarding Israel. He noted that in the situation in Gaza there is a term of urgency, and the party must remain united.
The progressive resolution was withdrawn, which caused discontent among some DNC members, who believe that the party should take a more assertive stance. DNC member Elison Minnerly, who initiated the resolution, emphasized that the party must consider the views of its constituents.
