Revelations about Doge indicate risks with social security data
- Doge has leaked social security data on an unsecured server.
- The whistleblower indicates serious threats to individual privacy.
- SSA prohibits the compromise of data, but the whistleblower claims it is happening.
According to reports, Elon Musk and his "Department of Government Effectiveness" (Doge) have leaked sensitive data from the Social Security Administration (SSA) to an unsecured server. According to Charles Borges, the head of SSA data, this could jeopardize the safety of millions of Americans.
In the complaint filed on August 26, 2025, it is stated that Doge employees created a live copy of all the social security data of the USA, which could lead to serious threats to individual privacy. The information may include such data as names, birth dates, racial and ethnic affiliations, as well as social security numbers.
Although SSA prohibits data from being compromised, Borges asserts that its numerous prior warnings about security have gone unheeded. The complaint addresses the fact that the absence of independent control over the data could lead to the leakage of personal information and other crimes.
The organization "Government Accountability Project" provides Borges with legal support and urges lawmakers to take measures to protect public data. Investigations show that Doge gained access to a large amount of information from government data bases, but no comprehensive review was conducted regarding the reasons for such access.
