  • The US continues to strengthen efforts against Hezbollah's spread in Lebanon.

US Ambassador Tom Barak sparked outrage among Lebanese journalists when, during a press conference in Beirut on September 26, 2025, he called on them to "act civilized" and not to be "beastly." These comments were made following a meeting of the US delegation with the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun.

Barak, who is also the special envoy of the US to Syria, sought to remind journalists that raising questions simultaneously is a common practice at similar events. He noted that such "chaotic" conduct is related to a broader problem in the region.

The Lebanese president expressed regret regarding the comments made, which were deemed "inappropriate" from his podium. The Minister of Information, Pavlo Markos, also emphasized the need for removal from Barak's side. Lebanese journalist unions referred to the comments as "directly offensive" and demanded public removal.

Barak, for his part, called on journalists to "be kind and tolerant," as their conduct affects the situation in the region. He noted that the US aims to support Lebanon in strengthening against the spread of radical groups, such as Hezbollah, which continues to remain a powerful influence in the country.
