- The Barcelona transfer team does not want to let Lopez go.
Chelsea is assessing the possibility of signing Barcelona's attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez. Currently, there is no direct contact between the clubs. However, a club from London is negotiating with the player's representatives, especially considering plans to strengthen the attacking positions due to the potential departures of other footballers, taking into account the strong competition in this zone at Barcelona.
Lopez's contract with Barcelona runs until 2029, after he signed a new deal in July 2024, which extended his terms for another two years. At 22 years old, he played 46 matches last season, most of which were as a substitute, and scored eight goals, while also providing ten assists. Lopez started in three of the last five matches of the season, when Barcelona won the La Liga title.
Lopez joined Barcelona from Real Betis at the age of 12 and came through La Masia academy. After his emergence at the club, he made it to Barcelona's first team, scoring 11 goals in 43 matches under coach Xavi. He also made his debut for the Spanish national team in June 2024.
Barcelona has a large selection in the central line, where such players as Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Marc Casado, and Gavi play. Coach Xavi Flik does not want to lose Lopez, but the club is ready to consider proposals that would be significant.
Lopez himself recently confirmed his desire to stay at Barcelona, stating that this is his dream.
