Judge Dugan to Continue Case Against Immigrant in Detention

  • Judge Hannah Dugan is being accused in the detention of an immigrant.
  • The case against her will continue after the denial of a motion to dismiss.
  • Dugan could face up to six years in prison if convicted.

Wisconsin, USA. A federal judge has allowed to continue the case against Judge Hannah Dugan, who is accused of providing assistance to a man who remains in the country without documents, in an attempt to obstruct immigration authorities in her court.

Dugan was barred in April and previously indicted in June. She filed a motion to dismiss the indictment, but on September 26, Judge Lynn Adelman denied that motion. Earlier, the magistrate recommended continuing the case.

Dugan, who has not pleaded guilty, asserts that she acted within her judicial responsibilities and has a right to judicial immunity. However, Judge Adelman ruled that there is no basis for granting immunity in connection with the accusations.

Prosecutors accuse Dugan of aiding a detained individual to avoid arrest, which is a misdemeanor, as well as in the obstruction of an official proceeding, which is a felony. She could face up to six years in prison and a fine of $350,000 in the event of conviction.

The Dugan case parallels a similar case that was adjudicated during the first administration of Trump, where a judge from Massachusetts also faced accusations of providing assistance to a detained individual to avoid arrest.
