Head coach of Colorado Deion Sanders announced the decision to name Kaden Salter, transfer from Liberty, as the starting quarterback for the beginning of the season. Salter will replace Shedeur Sanders, who moved to the NFL, when the Buffaloes meet Georgia Tech on September 29.

Salter, who has experience in the game, was chosen after a heated competition for the position with freshman Julian "Juju" Lewis. Salter demonstrated himself as a player capable of making big plays, at Liberty he accumulated 66 touchdowns over two seasons.

Sanders noted that Salter was chosen for his experience, emphasizing that "experience is key" in this position. However, he also expressed hope that young Lewis, who is not yet 18 years old, would have the opportunity to play this season.

Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur highlighted Salter's mobility and his ability to create moments. Sanders has a close connection with Salter's family, which influenced the decision about the appointment.

This season, Colorado hopes for Salter's stability after the results of 4-8 in the previous year, while Lewis awaits his chance.
