Trump Demands $500 Million from Harvard for Funding Reinstatement
- Trump demands $500 million from Harvard for the reinstatement of funding.
- Harvard filed a lawsuit against Trump's administration over the funding cuts.
- Some other universities have already reached agreements with the government for the return of funds.
President Donald Trump stated that his administration is demanding $500 million from Harvard University for the reinstatement of federal funding that was suspended. "They don’t lead with negotiations, they were very poor," Trump said during a cabinet meeting.
The comments were reported in a statement regarding the fact that Trump’s administration and Harvard are approaching possible regulation of ongoing funding cuts. The university was the first to file a lawsuit against Trump’s administration over the suspension of funding, which totaled $2.6 billion.
Harvard asserts that these cuts are illegal and related to the university's refusal to comply with demands to combat anti-Semitism on campus. Trump believes that the intended actions against elite universities, such as Harvard, are a beneficial political strategy.
At this moment, the university has not reacted to requests for comments. However, it is reported that Harvard has asked the court to expedite the consideration of the case, as the upcoming month requires the submission of documents for the restoration of funding.
Some other universities, such as Columbia and Brown, have already reached agreements with Trump’s administration for the reinstatement of funding, paying significant amounts as part of the regulation.
