Kairat Almaty has become the second Kazakh club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after Astana. In the qualifying match that took place on August 26, 2025, the team from Kazakhstan defeated the Scottish club Celtic in a penalty shootout series. The regular time and additional 30 minutes ended in a draw at 0-0, after which the penalty shootout was decided.
The goalkeeper of Kairat, Temirlan Anarbekov, became the hero of the match, saving three penalties from the superstar. It is noteworthy that the team from Almaty is returning to the elite European tournament for the first time in ten years, where they will compete against clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
Besides the Kairat-Celtic match, in other qualifying matches, Bodo/Glimt won 5-0 against Stjarnan, while Pafos triumphed over Chervenaya Zirka with a score of 2-1.
