Saints Announce Quarterback Spencer Rattler as Their Starting Quarterback
- Quarterback Spencer Rattler has been named the starting quarterback of the Saints for the 2025 season.
- Tyler Shough will be the backup quarterback after being selected in the second round of the draft.
- Head coach Kellen Moore emphasized Rattler's stability during preparations.
The New Orleans team, Saints, announced that quarterback Spencer Rattler will be their starting quarterback at the beginning of the 2025 season, as reported by head coach Kellen Moore in a press conference. The Saints will play their first game of the season at home against Arizona on September 7.
Rattler, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 draft, aims to outperform rookie Tyler Shough, who the team selected in the second round of the 2025 draft. Last season, Rattler started six games, but the team lost all of those matches, finishing the season with a record of 5-12.
Kellen Moore noted that Rattler demonstrated stability and made sound decisions during the preparation period. "He earned this opportunity. I believe he performs his job at a high level," Moore said.
In three preseason games, Rattler completed 69.8% of his passes and averaged 6.9 yards per attempt. Shough, in turn, showed similar results, completing 66.7% of his attempts, but his statistics were slightly lower.
Additionally, Moore stated that tight end Taysom Hill and tight end Foster Moreau are expected to start the season on the list of those who cannot play due to injuries.
