Washington, D.C. — The increased federal enforcement in the capital of the USA, initiated by the Trump administration, has caused anxiety among local residents, including immigrants, who feel fear and insecurity in their daily lives. Two senior commanders of the Washington police confirmed that this increased presence of law enforcement negatively affects relations with local communities.

Commander of the Sixth District, Jaron Hickman, noted that he wants to eliminate violent crime from the streets, the importance of such a policy can be significant. He expressed readiness to restore trust between the police and the community after the completion of these operations.

Many residents, especially immigrants, claim that they feel threatened because federal agents, including the National Guard, actively conduct checks and arrests. This has led to many people, including business workers, feeling less inclined to go out onto the streets.

According to data provided by the White House, since the introduction of new measures, more than a thousand arrests have been made; however, not all of them were related to immigrants. Among residents, there is a noted increase in racial profiling, as many feel that they are being targeted due to their ethnic status.

Despite the administration's claims about ensuring safety, residents of cities like Columbia Heights feel that their communities have become less safe. Restaurants and shops are suffering from reduced foot traffic, as many clients and workers are afraid to go outside.
