  • The Ukrainian embassy is conducting negotiations with Poland regarding the veto.
  • The President of Poland restricts social rights for Ukrainian refugees.
  • Critics point to the economic consequences of the veto for Poland.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The Ukrainian embassy in Poland is holding consultations with Polish authorities regarding the veto of President Karol Nawrocki on the draft law on social payments for Ukrainian refugees. This was reported by Vasyl Bodnar, the ambassador of Ukraine in Poland, in a comment for Slawa TV.

He noted that the situation with the new changes in Polish legislation has caused strong emotions. However, the embassy continues to work on ensuring the rights of Ukrainians in accordance with the mandate of the official government of Ukraine.

Bodnar emphasized the importance of adhering to existing legal norms and urged Ukrainians to follow the legality of their stay in Poland, to timely formalize all necessary documents. The embassy continues to inform Ukrainians about the progress of negotiations.

On August 25, Nawrocki signed a veto on the draft law, which prohibits Ukrainian refugees from working starting from January 1, which, according to critics, will lead to an increase in illegal employment and a decrease in tax revenues.

The president also intends to restrict access to childcare assistance and medical services for Ukrainians. After June 1, the category of Ukrainians who have the right to social payments under the "800+" program, which provides 800 zlotys per month for children up to 18 years old, has already been reduced.

Critics of Nawrocki's actions point to the fact that his decisions may lead to economic instability and social tension in Poland. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland noted that this decision may create additional expenditures amounting to 8 billion zlotys, which will affect the already strained budget.
