The Court in Brazil Ordered to Monitor Bolsonaro's Residency
- Bolsonaro was ordered to be monitored under house arrest through a risk mitigation.
- The judicial process will begin next Monday.
- Experts believe that the charges could lead to serious consequences.
The Supreme Court of Brazil ordered to monitor the former president Jair Bolsonaro, considering him a risk factor. This decision was made ahead of the upcoming start of the judicial process, which could lead to Bolsonaro's imprisonment for up to 40 years.
Bolsonaro, who is 70 years old, has been living in Brazil under a domestic arrangement since the beginning of September. It is noted that the prosecutor returned to the Supreme Court with a request to strengthen the control after police uncovered documents that indicate possible plans of Bolsonaro to engage in political activities in Argentina.
On Thursday, September 27, Judge Alexandre de Moraes expressed concern about the presence of risk factors and ordered the police to monitor Bolsonaro's residency in Brazil. The operations are to be conducted "discreetly," without intruding into the private life of the former president and his relatives.
The judicial process, in which Bolsonaro and his closest associates are accused, begins next Monday. Regardless of the prohibition on the charges, experts believe that evidence against him may lead to serious consequences.
At the same time, Bolsonaro and his son, Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, are being investigated for attempts to evade the judicial process and to pressure the courts. Last week, the police discovered documents on Bolsonaro's phone that contained a request for political assistance to the Argentine president.
