In New York, prosecutors are demanding that Nadine Menendez, the friend of former Senator Bob Menendez, receive a seven-year sentence for her involvement in a bribery scheme that resulted in a conviction for her accomplice 11 years ago. Nadine, 58, was found guilty in April, and a year after that, her accomplice and two businessmen from New Jersey were also convicted in the same case.

Prosecutors indicated that evidence shows that Nadine began planning how to obtain benefits from the senator, already the day after their meeting seven years ago. They emphasized that her actions were serious and intentional, justifying a severe sentence.

Defenders of Nadine assert that she is not responsible for the actions of her accomplice or partners. They pointed to the traumas she detailed in her life and requested the court to consider these circumstances during the sentencing of the verdict.

Bob Menendez, who is serving a sentence in federal custody, also wrote a letter to the judge, in which he expressed regret regarding the fact that his friend was depicted as a villain. He noted that Nadine had her own financial difficulties from her previous job and that her financial troubles were related to the aftermath of a car accident that occurred in 2018.

Nadine's lawyers are asking to sentence her to 12 months and 1 day in prison, indicating that she is a first-time offender without a history of repeated crimes.
