After a series of geopolitical meetings in September, Europe is faced with the reality that it must independently defend Ukraine from Russian aggression, as support from the United States is limited.
European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, are meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss security issues and possible peace negotiations. Trump expressed his intention to pressure Russia, but he also hopes for a peaceful resolution to the war.
Trump warned that if Russia withdraws from peace agreements, it threatens to impose economic warfare. He noted that the United States does not plan to get involved in a world war, but is ready to implement severe economic measures.
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, called for readiness to introduce new sanctions against Russia if peace is not achieved. She stressed that Ukraine's security is important for Europe.
Trump also indicated that a bilateral meeting between Zelensky and Putin is being prepared, but the latest statements from Moscow have raised doubts about the readiness of the Russian president for negotiations.
