British tennis player Jacob Fearnley achieved his first victory in the main tournament of the US Open, overcoming nerves and opponent Roberto Bautista Agut with a score of 7-5, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. The match lasted three hours and 24 minutes, becoming the longest in Fearnley's career.

Moreover, the 24-year-old sportsman, despite being 18 years younger, showed resilience in critical moments and managed to finish the match on a positive note. Fearnley noted that the nerves affected his game, especially in key moments when he aimed to close out the set.

The match took place on the Grandstand, the third-largest court at Flushing Meadows. Fearnley became the only British player to advance further in the tournament, while his compatriots Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Francesca Jones, and Billy Harris suffered defeats.

In the upcoming round, Fearnley will face the third seed German Alexander Zverev, who also won his first match in the tournament.

Fearnley revealed that his progress over the last 15 months has been impressive, and just last year he was outside the top 500 of the world ranking. Thanks to his performances on the ATP Tour, he aims to break into the top 50 this September.
