Western allies of Ukraine have developed a preliminary plan for the defense of the country after the war, reports the Financial Times. According to the information shared, the plan includes three lines of defense.

The first line includes a demilitarized zone, which may be patrolled by peacekeepers from a third country under the agreement between Ukraine and Russia. The second line includes Ukrainian forces, "reinforced and trained by NATO." The third line is a European "stabilization force," positioned further from the border and supported by American troops.

Along with this information, American officials have repeatedly stated that they are not sending their soldiers to Ukraine, but Washington is ready to provide intelligence and other forms of support. Even under the conditions of American assistance, as noted by FT, domestic and many political factors in Europe remain wary of possible deployment of troops in Ukraine.

Discussion of security guarantees for Ukraine, which may include the deployment of foreign troops, is actively ongoing following the recent meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump in Washington. Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that the Kremlin will not accept the proposals of the USA and Europe regarding security guarantees for Ukraine.

ISW indicates that Russian officials have repeatedly rejected Western guarantees, particularly the presence of NATO troops. The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov recently stated that Western countries are not obliged to bear responsibility for Ukraine's security after the cessation of hostilities.
