The Australian government confirmed the link between Iran and attacks on synagogues
- The Australian intelligence agency has identified a link between Iran and anti-Semitic attacks.
- A man has been arrested, suspected of being behind the attacks on the synagogue in Melbourne.
- Iran denies the accusations regarding the attacks on Jewish communities.
The Australian government believes that there is a high probability of a connection between Iranian military structures and anti-Semitic attacks in Sydney and Melbourne. Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke stated that the intelligence has revealed direct links between Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the attacks on the synagogues. On Wednesday, September 27, 2025, the Iranian ambassador to Australia, Ahmad Sadeghi, was summoned after the government announced his expulsion.
Investigations have shown that the perpetrators, who emerged in early 2024, were organized through a network of intermediaries that received funding from Iran. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese noted that the intelligence has uncovered "sufficient information" regarding Iran's involvement in these attacks, indicating the use of cryptocurrency and encrypted messages for funding the operations.
At this moment, a local resident, Younes Ali Younes, who is accused in the attacks on the synagogue of Adas Israel in Melbourne, has been detained. In court, he did not admit his guilt. According to the minister of Home Affairs, those who participated in the attack may not know that they are directed by Iranian structures.
The Iranian government has strongly rejected these accusations, considering them baseless.
Australian intelligence services continue to investigate to clarify all the details of these crimes and possible links to other countries. The government also plans to expand the powers of its security services to better respond to threats.
