The time capsule, laid by Princess Diana in 1991 at Great Ormond Street Hospital, was opened, revealing interesting items, including the CD of Kylie Minogue, a toy calculator, and a passport.

This capsule, sealed in a bronze box, was dedicated to the establishment of the Variety Club foundation, which opened in 1994. Two children who won the Blue Peter competition selected ten items that represented life in the 1990s. Among them were also a pocket television, a hologram of Diana's photograph, and a photo of Princess Diana.

Initially, the capsule was supposed to be opened after "a hundred years," but it was decided to excavate it for the construction of a new center for children with oncological conditions. Princess Diana became the president of the Gosh hospital in 1989 and visited it several times until her death in 1997.

The children who selected the items were chosen for this task by Diana herself. The CD of Kylie Minogue "Rhythm of Love" was chosen by David Watson, who was 11 at the time, and Sylvia Fulkes, who was 9, chose a collection of British coins, a container made from five native woods, and a hologram of a photograph.

The capsule also contained a copy of the Times newspaper from the date of the burial, where headlines on current topics of that time were published. Some items were damaged, but most of them remained in good condition.

The hospital staff, born in 1991 or having worked there then, helped with the extraction of the capsule. This event recalls the ceremony of 1872, when Prince Alexander, then Prince of Wales, laid a time capsule that has never been found.

The new center for children with oncological conditions will become "a national resource for the treatment of childhood cancers," allowing clinical teams to develop "better and more effective therapies" for children who are staying in the hospital.
