Copenhagen, Denmark – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, summoned the senior US diplomat in Copenhagen after reports that Americans linked to the administration of President Donald Trump are conducting influence operations in Greenland.
Greenland, a large Arctic island rich in natural resources, is of interest to the US. Denmark, a NATO ally, stated that the island "is not for sale" and has tried to collect intelligence on its territory.
The Danish intelligence service DR reported that several Americans associated with Trump were involved in influence operations on the territory of Greenland. Reports indicate that the aim is to weaken relations between Greenland and Denmark.
The investigation by DR is based on data from eight sources, which assert that these individuals work to strengthen US influence in the region.
Rasmussen emphasized that Denmark "absolutely does not" accept any influence operations on its territory, and stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will respond accordingly.
Additional reports indicate that one of the mentioned Americans compiled lists of Greenlanders who may have positive or negative attitudes towards potential US control over the island.
