Explosion on the Ryazan-Moscow oil pipeline halts supply

  • The explosion on the Ryazan-Moscow oil pipeline occurred on August 26.
  • Transportation of oil products to Moscow has been suspended.
  • Repair work is ongoing in the area of the village of Bozhatkov.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Interfax Ukraine.

On August 26, a powerful explosion occurred in the Ryazan region on the main oil pipeline Ryazan-Moscow. This pipeline is one of the key sources of oil product supply to Moscow. Information about the powerful "explosion" was announced on local channels, accompanied by widespread fire.

For several hours following the incident, emergency services were working to extinguish the fire. According to local residents, in the area of the village of Bozhatkov, fire brigades and repair teams are working to liquidate the aftermath of the explosion.

Since 2018, the oil pipeline has been operated by the company "Transneft" for the supply of automotive gasoline, which satisfies the needs of the Russian army. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the transportation of oil products to Moscow has been temporarily suspended, while representatives of "Transneft" are assessing the damages from the incident.

Strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline

The first attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline occurred on September 13, and on September 18, Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted a second strike — this time on the Nikolskiy oil pumping station in the Tambov region. As a result of the attack on the facility, a fire broke out, and the Russians subsequently halted the pumping of oil through the Druzhba pipeline. On September 20, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto stated that the pumping of oil had been resumed. However, on September 21, saboteurs again struck the station in Unecha, which led to the suspension of oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia.
