US President Donald Trump is convening a meeting at the White House to discuss the situation in Gaza and develop a postwar plan for the region. This was announced by Trump's special representative, Steve Vitkoff.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, during which participants will discuss important steps for the future of Gaza. Vitkoff noted that Washington expects the conflict in Gaza to be resolved by the end of the year.
Also, according to the US State Department, Secretary of State Mark Rubin will meet with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Gidon Saar on the same day. This meeting will take place at 15:15 Eastern Time.
Trump, during his previous election campaign, promised a quick end to the war in Gaza, but it has already been more than six months since its escalation, and the situation remains complicated. Vitkoff confirmed that the Israeli side is open to continuing negotiations with the Hamas group, which, in turn, expressed readiness to conclude an agreement.
The conflict in Gaza has been ongoing since July 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in a large number of casualties on both sides. According to reports, over 62 thousand Palestinians have died as a result of Israeli airstrikes, which has provoked international criticism and accusations of crimes against humanity.
